Prizes awarded at Frankfurt sports gala

(ffm) At the eighth Frankfurt Sports Gala, Head of Sports Markus Frank honored the best Frankfurt athletes of the year with the coveted Siegerbembel. Around 400 guests were guests at the Mainarcaden on Saturday, 17 November, and celebrated the Frankfurt sportsmen and sportswomen of the year 2018 in seven categories in a festive setting with a varied show programme. Athletes who either compete for a Frankfurt club or live in Frankfurt were honored.

Hammer thrower Kathrin Klaas was also honored for her outstanding athletic career. The City of Frankfurt's sports award, entitled "Sport knows no borders", went to eight Frankfurt performance clubs.

The City of Frankfurt's Sports Award can be used to recognize individuals, clubs or organizations that have shown outstanding commitment to promoting and implementing the socially integrative function of sport in Frankfurt, thereby demonstrating how boundaries are overcome through and in sport. For decades, the work of the performance communities has provided an important individual development opportunity for many children and young people from all nations in the area between popular and professional sports. The sports prize has been awarded every two years since 2006 and this year is endowed with a total of 12,000 euros.

"The Frankfurt Sports Gala is a very special end to the sports year for me," said Councillor Frank. "I am delighted that the Frankfurt sports family is coming together in the Mainarcaden and that we can celebrate our successful athletes together. For me, Frankfurt is a very versatile sports city, which this evening again clearly shows: athletes in many Olympic disciplines were honored."

The Frankfurt Sports Gala was hosted by Anett Sattler and Florian Nass. The band Waterproof provided musical accompaniment for the evening and ensured the best atmosphere into the night at the closing after-show party
