Programme of the Bahnhofsviertel Night 2019 presented

Nearly in no other part of Frankfurt is the special character of the city as clear as its biggest problems, as in the smallest district, the Bahnhofsviertel. On the one hand, life and diversity pulsate here, art and creativity are celebrated just as much as culinary delights. On the other hand, the drug scene, crime, prostitution and homelessness are omnipresent here. It is a place of contrasts, a place full of history and stories. As much as some love their Kiez, the Bahnhofsviertel is shunned by others.

Once a year, this special part of Frankfurt opens up to all the city's residents and many visitors from the surrounding area. The Bahnhofsviertel night may have the appearance of being primarily a big after-work party. But in reality, this popular event is much more. Because on this one evening, the people who live and work here provide an exciting, entertaining, but also unvarnished look behind the scenes. This will be the case again next Thursday, 15 August, when between 6 p.m. and midnight the Bahnhofsviertel Night 2019 invites you to explore the quarter with many great programme items.

"The Bahnhofsviertel is different, every day, and stands like no other district for the spirit of this city, which is characterised by proximity, change and cosmopolitanism," says Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann, describing the district's dazzling charm. As in previous years, the city leader will officially open the twelfth Bahnhofsviertel night at 6.30 pm on the stage in the courtyard of the Weißfrauen-Diakoniekirche.

"I am delighted that, in addition to the many institutional partners, many local residents are once again taking part in this unique event. These people make the quarter what it is: the most diverse district in Frankfurt," Feldmann said at the presentation of this year's program on Friday, August 9.

Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the cultural, linguistic and culinary diversity of the quarter in all its colors and facets at a total of 48 stations. Included are some old acquaintances, but also new locations, such as the Design Offices Frankfurt, the Personnel and Organization Office (POA) or the Café Toastado, among others. "The Bahnhofsviertel is a universe of its own. With us, the most diverse guests from all over the world come together as gourmets," tells Alim Cosgun of Alim's Fischimbiss on Münchener Straße.

In addition to numerous guided tours, exhibitions and other activities, there will of course be quite a bit of live music again this year: singers from the Frankfurt Opera will demonstrate their skills on the opening stage. In addition, the Frankfurt band Gastone will entertain visitors with atmospheric songs.

"We are doing everything we can to be able to celebrate a safe and peaceful Bahnhofsviertel night again this year. The event has been one of the highlights of Frankfurt's calendar of events for years. From there, it is a matter of course for us that visitors to the Bahnhofsviertel can enjoy themselves and look around the district with a safe feeling on August 15," assures Thomas Feda, Managing Director of the municipal Tourismus+Congress GmbH, which is responsible for the overall organization.

As in 2018, three screens with safety precautions and information are set up for this purpose at Kaisersack, Karlsplatz and Taunusstraße. In addition, this time two more emergency announcement systems (NDA) will be set up at the corner of Taunus-/Elbestraße and the corner of Münchner-/ Moselstraße.

Also this year, during the Bahnhofsviertel night, the traffic of tram lines 11 and 12 will be temporarily interrupted at the level of the Bahnhofsviertel. The stops Weser-/Münchener Straße, Hauptbahnhof/Münchener Straße (both tram lines 11, 12 and 14) as well as Taunusanlage, Hauptbahnhof/Karlstraße and Weserstraße (bus line 64 and n8) will not be served between 4 pm and 3 am. Instead, the trains and buses will stop at other stops nearby or at replacement stops.
