There is good news from Bethmann Park. It had already been decided in September last year to rebuild the water pavilion in the Chinese Garden, which was destroyed by arson on 01 June 2017. Now it can finally get underway: The Parks Department will start the reconstruction of the Chinese Pavilion in a few weeks. At the end of March, the destroyed wooden structure, the roof, the floor slabs and the walls will first be demolished and the pavilion will be faithfully restored by Chinese artisans. To this end, they have been making the components over the past few months according to the original construction plans for the pavilion. The materials arrived in Frankfurt by sea.
The materials are expected to be delivered between March 13 and 14 and March 18 and 19. Bethmann Park will need to be completely closed for safety reasons during the time of the delivery. Similarly, a one-day closure is expected to be necessary between March 25 and 30 for the erection of the construction cranes. Before and after this, the Bethmannpark entrances to Berger Straße and Friedberger Landstraße will remain open. Unfortunately, the Bethmannpark entrance to Friedberger Anlage will have to remain closed throughout the construction work.
However, these restrictions are gladly accepted when it comes to the beautiful Chinese Garden finally being opened to the public again. It is expected that the reconstruction of the Chinese Pavilion will be completed in autumn 2019. And then this wonderful gem will finally be able to welcome its visitors again.
