Redevelopment of the Riedbad Bergen-Enkheim outdoor pool - Frankfurt continues to invest in pool infrastructure

(ffm) In its meeting on Thursday evening, January 28, the city council approved the redevelopment of the outdoor pool in Bergen-Enkheim. The responsible sports department Markus Frank is pleased about this decision, which not only pleases the citizens of the Bergen-Enkheim district. 157,250 visitors came to the Riedbad last year. Of these, 89,742 were in the outdoor pool alone. By the Corona pandemic a very good proof of the popularity of this idyllically located outdoor pool.

"After we already rebuild the Bornheim family pool and also renew the Rebstockbad, the further revitalization of the Riedbad outdoor pool is a fundamental sports and health policy commitment to the expansion of Frankfurt's pool landscape," notes the sports department head.

In order to secure the future of the location, a concept for the revitalisation of the Riedbad Bergen-Enkheim open-air swimming pool was drawn up by the BäderBetriebe Frankfurt (BBF) in 2019/2020 and has already been adopted by the company's supervisory board. With the current resolution of the city council meeting, the starting signal can now be given for the further work.

Central goals of the renovation are to improve the usability of the outdoor pool for all guests. The renovation of the 50-metre swimming pool, the diving pool, the changing rooms and the bathing water technology of the outdoor pool will increase the attractiveness of the Riedbad. Furthermore, a teaching pool with optimised usage possibilities for schools, clubs and courses as well as an adventure pool with interesting attractions for the guests are planned. The concept for the revitalization is based on the premise of cost optimization for construction and operation. For example, energy costs will be significantly reduced by photovoltaic systems and pool covers will prevent water evaporation loss.

Boris Zielinski, Managing Director of Frankfurter Bäder, explains, "With the revitalization of the Riedbad outdoor pool in Bergen-Enkheim, taking into account environmental and economic requirements, not only the loyal fan community of our swimming pools win, but also all institutions such as schools, daycare centers and clubs in the city of Frankfurt."

Councillor Frank says: "I am pleased that the city councillors follow the proposal from the magistrate and approve the construction measures with a total volume of around 15 million euros for the Bergen-Enkheim outdoor pool. This investment cannot be taken for granted, especially against the background of the two major investment measures in Bornheim and at Rebstock. We can now commission the implementation plans in order to meet the scheduled start of construction in autumn 2022."
