The EKINOS are the most traditional movie theater in the city. After all, the family business is one of the five oldest film theatres in Germany. Over the decades, the greats of national and international cinema have been guests here and glittering premieres have been celebrated. Since the opening of the cinema at Zeil 125 in August 1952, many things have changed at the Hauptwache, but the "Europa-Palast" has remained. It has grown over time into the EKINOS, which has become one of Frankfurt's favourite cultural institutions for many.
After the smallest of the eight halls, the EDEN, was completely redesigned last year, it was now time to give the flagship of the EKINOS, the EUROPA, a makeover. The focus of the renovation was on the comfort of the guests. The old seating was removed and, after a new floor was laid, replaced by wider seats. The distance between the individual rows of seats was also increased, so that visitors can now enjoy a little more legroom. In addition, all seats are now also equipped with cup holders, which was previously missing in this cinema.
The EUROPA now has a few seats less, but the cinema visit here is now even more comfortable than before. Nevertheless - and this is enormously important to the owner family Jaeger - the special charm of the large cinema hall has been retained. The fact that the historical individuality of the halls remains recognizable and the tradition of the cinema family business is to be preserved, is also to be so, if these in the coming years gradually further halls are renovated and modernized, as it is planned at present. So that the EKINOS will remain the favorite cinema of many Frankfurt residents for many years to come.
