Restrictions in public transport during the summer holidays

Restrictions in public transport during the summer holidays

Summer holidays are coming soon - and with them come the usual restrictions in public transport. That's because the holiday season is regularly used to carry out necessary construction work. This is also the case this summer.

At the very beginning it hits the S-Bahn lines S3 and S4. Since Deutsche Bahn is renewing the S-Bahn tracks, no S-Bahn trains will be able to run in either direction on the line between Langen and Frankfurt (Main) Süd from July 4 to 27. A rail replacement service with buses has been set up for passengers during this time.

The tracks of the mainline railway between Darmstadt and Frankfurt are not affected by the construction work. Passengers wishing to travel from Darmstadt, Langen and Dreieich directly to Frankfurt can switch to trains on the regional rail lines RE60, RB68 and RB61.

For passengers who do not get on or off the train directly at the stations, another bus replacement service has been set up along the former B3. Routes to the replacement stops are signposted.

During the three-week closure, the rails and sleepers of the two S-Bahn tracks will be replaced and the track bed cleaned. Deutsche Bahn is also using the closure break to renew four points at Frankfurt Louisa station.

Work for the four-track expansion of the S6 and overhead line work in Bad Vilbel

The railway line between Frankfurt West and Bad Vilbel or Groß-Karben is closed on weekends during the summer holidays. The reason is construction work for the four-track expansion of the S6 and overhead line work in Bad Vilbel. The trains of the S6 are therefore cancelled on the weekends from 3 July to 17 August on Saturday between Bad Vilbel and Frankfurt Süd and from Saturday evening until early Monday morning between Groß-Karben and Frankfurt Süd. As a substitute, buses run between Groß-Karben and Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.

U2 interrupted, U9 does not run

There are also some restrictions on the subway during the holiday season. Thus, from Monday, July 6, about 2 o'clock, until Saturday, August 1, about 3 o'clock, the subway line U2 between Riedwiese/Mertonviertel and Nieder-Eschbach is interrupted. The reason is track construction work between Kalbach and Nieder-Eschbach. The U2 only runs between Südbahnhof and Riedwiese/Mertonviertel as well as between Nieder-Eschbach and Bad Homburg-Gonzenheim. Between Riedwiese/Mertonviertel and Nieder-Eschbach, there is no operation of the U2.

Following, from Saturday, August 1, about 3 o'clock to Monday, August 3, about 1.30 o'clock, the U2 runs only between Südbahnhof and Heddernheim and between Nieder-Eschbach and Bad Homburg-Gonzenheim. The reason for this is work on the overhead line. From Heddernheim to Nieder-Eschbach and back, the line U2 does not run.

The line U9 does not run during the entire construction work. The Riedberg is accessible with the line U8 as scheduled.

Rail replacement service with buses

A rail replacement service with articulated buses between Heddernheim, Riedwiese/Mertonviertel via Unicampus/Riedberg, Kalbach, Bonames Mitte and Nieder-Eschbach will be in place throughout the period.
