Wine lovers can rejoice: from August 28 to September 6, the traditional Rheingau Wine Market will once again take place on Frankfurt's Freßgass promenade. The special thing about this festival is that only Rheingau wineries present their wines here in the heart of Frankfurt's city centre. And the good drops are absolutely in the foreground here, which is why an accompanying entertainment program has always been dispensed with. But there is no need for that. Meeting friends or colleagues for a good glass of wine and enjoying a warm summer evening on the Freßgass is entertaining and nice enough.
Mayor Peter Feldmann is looking forward to this year's edition of the Rheingau wine market and has already presented the special features in advance: "At this year's Rheingau wine market on the Freßgass, 31 vintners will present their fine drops to the visitors for the first time", says the mayor. "For the first time, a flyer was also published in which all the wineries' stands are listed. So, one can plan his personal wine tastings and tastings and also the purchases for the domestic wine stock. The wine market is a nice opportunity for the people of Frankfurt, also for our guests of the city to get to know the excellent Rheingau and Frankfurt wines."
An important reason for visiting the Rheingau wine market is the quality of the wines: "With a lot of manual work and diligence, the vintners managed to press high-quality wines once again. In addition to a diverse range of wines, the 2018 vintage in particular, which produced incredible qualities, is the focus for visitors", says Feldmann.
Because in one of the warmest years since weather records began, a very early vine blossom followed by an enormously hot and dry summer. For the grapes, this meant optimal ripening conditions. "The fear that the dry summer would harm the quantity was groundless. On the contrary, to the surprise of many, the vines produced grapes of the highest quality-quantity ratio," says Rheingau viticulture president Peter Seyffardt.
The red wines in particular also benefited from the sunny summer and offer an excellent color and taste experience. "The 2018 vintage is characterized by a subtle acidity with a full-bodied fruit aroma and a creamy finish," explains Rheingau Wine Queen Katharina Bausch.
The wine festival will be opened on Wednesday, August 28, at 5 p.m., at the fountain by Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann, Peter Seyffardt and the Rheingau Wine Majesties. There will certainly be numerous visitors on the festival mile between Hauptwache and Alte Oper again. "The Rheingau wine market is a very special festival", knows Thomas Feda, managing director of the organizing Tourismus+Congress GmbH. And he underlines once again the special character of this city festival: "No sound system, no program. The focus is on the wine, its producers and its lovers."
The offer of the vintners is complemented by culinary delicacies, especially from the direct gastronomes on the Freßgass.
The wine market is open daily from 11 am to 11 pm. The Freßgass is easily accessible by public transport: it is located in the middle of the city and is optimally connected by public transport through the S-Bahn stop Hauptwache or the stop Alte Oper of the underground lines U6/ U7.
