Road closure: Cassella bridge over Hanauer Landstraße is demolished

Now things are getting serious: For some time now, work has been underway on the now dilapidated Cassella Bridge, which was built in 1964. Piece by piece, the bridge has been demolished from the south to just below Hanauer Landstrasse. Now the work goes into the last round, because they are now so far advanced that the last section over the Hanauer Landstraße can be demolished.

From Monday, January 9, the demolition work in the area of Hanauer Landstraße and Cassellastraße, which will last until mid-March, will therefore begin. To ensure that traffic can continue to flow on Hanauer Landstrasse, the lanes will be temporarily shifted. The streetcar service in the vicinity of the construction site must be temporarily suspended, as the overhead lines of the streetcar must be removed for the demolition of the bridge.

The demolition of the bridge is necessary because during inspections of the ASE in 2019 it was found that serious damage affects the supporting structure of the bridge. After detailed inspection, it was clear that the bridge can no longer be rehabilitated and consequently must be demolished.

Facts and figures

Construction period: 22. August 2022 to spring 2023

Bridge length: about 520 meters

Year built: 1964

Cost of deconstruction: about 2.2 million euros (pure construction costs)

Full closure of Cassella Street until 10. March

Cassella Street will be fully closed from Monday, January 9, through Friday, March 10. A detour will be in place via the bridge in Kilianstädter Straße, Birsteiner Straße, Bebraer Straße and Wächtersbacher Straße and vice versa. Note: Coming from Maintal, it is necessary to leave at the bridge Hanauer Landstraße/Kilianstädter Straße in the direction of Bergen-Enkheim. Pedestrians and cyclists can pass the construction site.

Hanauer Landstraße will be one lane

Because of the work, Hanauer Landstraße at the height of Cassellastraße will be closed from Monday, 23. January, to Thursday, 2. March, in both driving directions single lane. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pass the construction site on both sides of Hanauer Landstrasse. A temporary pedestrian ford will be made at the height of Hanauer Landstraße 505.

Tram line 11 interrupted, bus lines can go

Tram line 11 will run from Monday, 23. January, 3 o'clock, until Friday, March 3, 3 o'clock, not between Hugo-Junkers-Strasse and Schießhüttenstrasse. A rail replacement service with buses will be provided in this area. Both the buses of the rail replacement service and the bus lines 41 and N11 running there in Hanauer Landstraße will operate as scheduled. They will be routed past the construction site with the road traffic. The replacement bus stops are located at the height of Hanauer Landstraße 521/526.
