Schirn Kunsthalle moves temporarily to Bockenheim in 2025

The Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt will move to Frankfurt-Bockenheim for two years from summer 2025. The reason for this is a comprehensive energy refurbishment of the main building on the Römer. During the renovation work, the Schirn will present its exhibition program in the former Dondorf Druckerei, a centrally located industrial building that will be converted for this purpose.

A special highlight awaits visitors at the opening of the new location: a major dance performance by the renowned Sasha Waltz & Guests company. Exhibitions by Stephanie Comilang, Suzanne Duchamp, Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca and Thomas Bayrle are also planned. The popular Minischirn for children will also move to Bockenheim.

Parallel to the spatial change, the Schirn is also breaking new ground digitally: the website schirn.de has been completely redesigned and now offers a user-friendly platform with barrier-free access to art and culture.

"We want to use this special interim period to further develop the Schirn as a lively place of exchange," emphasizes Schirn Director Sebastian Baden.

The Schirn is expected to return to its Römer headquarters in 2027. By then, the sandstone façade, windows and glass roof will have been modernized and supplemented with sustainable elements such as solar panels.

Further information and the entire programme can be found at www.schirn.de.
