The Frankfurt talk series "Bembel & Gebabbel" invited guests to its 106th episode to a big Schlager special, transforming the Lohrberg with its view of the skyline into a stage for big emotions, colourful stories and lots of music. Host Bernd Reisig, stylishly staged in an XXL disco ball, welcomed three well-known personalities from the world of German Schlager: Olaf Henning, Joelina Drews and Jay Khan.
Olaf Henning: A hit that took a detour
Olaf Henning, cult figure of Schlager music and known for his long-running hit "Cowboy und Indianer" (Cowboy and Indian), returned to Bernd Reisig's regulars' table for the second time in over ten years. During the programme, the Gelsenkirchen native recounted how his biggest hit was initially rejected – and only became a surprise success thanks to seven lawyers in an Austrian ski resort. His first steps in the music business, his appearance on the Rudi Carrell Show and the curious story behind "Leberwurst-Liebe" were also discussed.
Joelina Drews: The pressure of a famous name
Singer Joelina Drews, daughter of the "King of Mallorca" Jürgen Drews, spoke openly about the challenge of establishing herself as an independent artist. "Being Jürgen Drews' daughter has opened many doors for me – but it also comes with high expectations," explained the 29-year-old. In addition to her musical career, she also chatted about her wedding to her partner Adrian in Las Vegas and her great passion for horses. She revealed with a smile that she originally had little interest in pop music.
Jay Khan: Between boy band and biography
Jay Khan, once the teen heartthrob of the boy band US5, also appeared reflective and personal in the talk format. He spoke about his childhood in a troubled Berlin neighbourhood, his musical career and his current band Team 5ünf. Particularly moving was Khan's announcement of his new book "Tariq & ich" (Tariq Ampersand Me), in which, according to his own statement, he reveals "the biggest lie of his life". Even before its publication, he gave the audience a first glimpse into the story. Cider, anecdotes and a disco ball Accompanied by Hessian cider and musical interludes, the Schlager Special was a successful mix of nostalgia, personal stories and a cheerful atmosphere. Presenter Bernd Reisig proved once again why his format is considered cult – with plenty of local colour, heart and humour.
