Sommerwerft brings culture to the Main

For seventeen years now, the banks of the Main have been transformed for a few days each summer into a very special place of culture, encounter and art. Into a place where really everyone can meet, experience theatre, music and more or simply enjoy the end of the day. And all this with free admission. It is the desire to bring culture into the public sphere that drives the members of protagon e.V. to put on the popular Sommerwerft Festival year after year, despite considerable financial hurdles.

Also this year, the whole thing will start with a cultural invasion (20.07., 17h). This colourful and cheerful demonstration procession, which will start at Goetheplatz and lead to the banks of the Main, is intended to publicise the conviction of the festival organisers and the participating artists and to attract people to the festival at the Weseler Werft. From July 20 to August 5, visitors can expect a colorful program with something for every taste. So there will be in the cozy Bedouin tent again numerous music performances, from blues / soul (Markus Rill, 24.7.) to Latino / jazz (Huepa, 25.7.), German indie rock (Clean, 22.7.) to Hesse rock (dadefür, 29.7.) or singer / songwriter sounds (Romie, 4.8.).

On the festival Sundays the popular FLOWmarkt invites you to rummage and find bargains, there will be theatre performances by the group antagon theater Aktion from Frankfurt, among others, and the popular headphone disco may not be missing this year. Is that all? Far from it: With the Labyrinth, a new performance space has been created, which will be used by various artists from Friday to Tuesday evenings from 9 pm onwards. There will be various workshops, poetry slams and open-air cinema. And young festival-goers have also been thought of with their own programme.

Three squares offer space for a total of 2,500 visitors, who can get drinks at three different bars or enjoy delicacies from all over the world at various food stalls. With the help of many volunteers, a colourful festival has been set up again this year, which has to cope with ever increasing costs. Many visitors are with great hunger and thirst are therefore as welcome as donations.
