The Frankfurt Art Experience - new gallery and art weekend festival in Frankfurt

(ffm) For the first time, Frankfurt's galleries, together with many players from the art world and with the financial support of the city of Frankfurt, are realizing an exciting and multi-layered art weekend from September 6 to 8.

Deputy Mayor Markus Frank is looking forward to the new event highlight in Frankfurt: "With this vibrant festival format, we are offering another attraction in our city that has exciting offers in store, as it were, for regional visitors with an interest in art, culture and urbanity in the city, but also for the nationally and internationally open-minded city break crowd."

"The Frankfurt Art Experience" is the first project funding of the Department of Economic Affairs from funds of the tourism levy and will be realized with the team around the founder and art collector Tyrown Vincent, consisting of Tristan Lorenz, Ulrike Berendson and Britta von Campenhausen, as well as the agency Urban Media Projekt as project sponsor. The Art Experience Center, located in the "Flare of Frankfurt" in downtown Frankfurt, forms the heart of the festival: in addition to lectures and discussions, guided tours - the so-called Talks and Walks - the art fair Paper Positions (already represented in Berlin, Basel and Munich) will come to the Main metropolis for the first time.

"The Frankfurt Art Experience" bundles existing local potential, puts it into an innovative perspective for an international as well as local, art-savvy and specialised target group and thus makes it possible to experience it in a new way. For this purpose, a diverse program with four building blocks creates a comprehensive and intuitive exchange between actors and audience.

The selected period coincides with the 25th season start of the Frankfurt Galleries and was deliberately chosen to promote and further develop the programmatic collaboration as well as close partnership. "The Frankfurt galleries are deeply rooted in our city and stand for quality marketing of artists. They complement what is on offer for art lovers and show how diverse Frankfurt is as a city of culture. With the festival, the 25th anniversary of the 'Saisonstart Frankfurter Galerien' will be duly celebrated and the entire spectrum of contemporary art will be shown," says head of culture Ina Hartwig.

The first component, "The Art Experience Walks", is conceived by art historian and manager Britta von Campenhausen: guided tours through the various districts of the city, such as the Bahnhofsviertel, Sachsenhausen or the Westend, with which experienced art educators offer the public a variety of discovery tours. They provide special insights into the local heterogeneous art scene from private and institutional collections. Also included are places with artworks in public space as well as actors who usually operate less visibly in the background, such as restorers.

At "The Art Experiences Talks," curated by art historian and manager Ulrike Berendson, relevant personalities from the art world speak about current developments and trends in the industry. Lectures and discussion rounds form the content-related basis for networking and personal exchange. The overriding theme is Frankfurt am Main as a city of the art trade - past, present, future. More specifically, the spotlights will be on the art market, the relationship between artists and curators, and Frankfurt's place in this world. Impetus will be provided by both local players and the outside views of renowned art critics, art scholars, collectors and curators.

With the 25th anniversary kick-off of the "Galerien Frankfurt" community of interests, which will be held on the weekend of 7 and 8. September also come up with a joint anniversary exhibition, more than 50 galleries and cultural institutions throughout the city open selected exhibitions and invite you to discover.

The art fair Paper Positions shows outstanding artistic positions on the theme of drawing and the medium of paper. In doing so, the participating galleries and the artists they represent will be given a 1500 square meter presentation opportunity dedicated to the medium of paper with all its specific characteristics, its fragility and its enormous versatility.

"It is time to trade, experience and celebrate art in Frankfurt as an urban event and, above all, to take it to the outside world," Tyrown Vincent, director and initiator of the project, is pleased to say. Similar formats in Berlin or Amsterdam have proven themselves as permanent city tourism attractions. For the more than 50 owner-managed galleries, there is therefore a great potential for discovery to the outside world, as up to now the local art scene has largely remained under the radar in national and international perception. The overarching goal is thus to bring together Frankfurt with its urban, cosmopolitan qualities and special, vertical structures through a diverse and outstanding art weekend with art experiences in the galleries, collections and at the art fair.
