The Freiluftkino Frankfurt shows in memory of Aretha Franklin the cult film BLUES BROTHERS

"We all require and want respect, man or woman, black or white. It's our basic human right." (Aretha Franklin)

Last week, a very great artist passed away in the form of Aretha Franklin. With her incomparable voice, the soul diva created some very great songs that will remain immortal even after her death. Particularly successful were the songs "Respect" and "Think", which she contributed to the soundtrack of the 1980 cult film "Blues Brothers", in which she also stars as Ms. Murphy. In the last week of this year's season, the makers of FREILUFTKINO FRANKFURT will be showing the film classic as a special screening on Wednesday, 22 August to mark the death of Aretha Franklin. Of course in the original version with German subtitles. Admission for this screening is already at 7 pm!

"Blues Brothers" is one of the most remarkable cult films in film history. Like no other flick, the soundtrack has influenced the music world and is still one of the best-selling soundtrack albums of all time. For example, who doesn't know the legendary scene with Aretha Franklin as a diner owner, the "Soul Food Cafè"? Her 1968 top ten hit "Think" was given its permanent place in Hollywood's pedigree twelve years later. The cult film not only captivates with outstanding casting in the lead roles with Dan Akroyd and John Belushi. The supporting cast features Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, James Brown, John Lee Hooker and many other world-renowned musicians.

As a warm-up, the Frankfurt a capella band "Just Jonez" will sing songs by Aretha Franklin.

On the remaining three days of the Freiluft Kino, the US tragicomedy "Lady Bird" by Greta Gerwig (Golden Globe 2018; Best Picture), the stroke of genius "I, Tonya" by Craig Gillespie (Oscar 2018 for Allison Janney; Best Actress in a Leading Role) and "The Big Lebowski" will be shown - another true cult film celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018! So it's worth a visit to the outdoor cinema, and not just on Wednesday!
