"The Library of Things" is now also available in Frankfurt

'The Library of Things' is now also available in Frankfurt

Sustainability is playing an ever greater and more important role in all areas of our lives. The fact that really everyone can make a contribution is no longer a secret. And so there are more and more projects that make it possible to integrate sustainability into personal everyday life. Unpacked food shops and waste collection initiatives are just two examples that are also becoming increasingly popular in Frankfurt. Another project of this kind is the "Library of Things", which has already met with great popularity in cities such as Kassel, Würzburg, Ludwigshafen, Berlin or Hamburg and is now also offering "Zeusch for Eusch" in Frankfurt.

The concept of the "Library of Things" is as simple as it is ingenious: Here, it is not books that are offered, but everyday objects that can be borrowed by anyone over 18 with a valid library card: Whether picnic basket or ironing board, whether hammock or screwdriver, whether beamer or boule set: in the Library Center Sachsenhausen (Hedderichstraße 32) you will find kitchen utensils, tools, technology, outdoor items and musical instruments. But that's not all: In the Music Library (Hasengasse 4) there is a large selection of musical instruments, podcast and studio equipment. Banjo, electric bass, keyboard, acoustic guitar, microphones - whatever you need, you'll find it here. With a stock of about 100 items, the "Library of Things" in Frankfurt goes to the start.

The things can be borrowed for a total of four weeks. Unlike books, CDs and movies, renewals are not possible. You can browse the "Library of Things" on site during opening hours, or you can browse the online library catalogue at: www.tinyurl.com/zeuschfuereusch. Then just call and reserve the "Zeusch" you want. You must then return your loan item to the service desk of the library where you borrowed it. A return via another library or the vending machine is not possible.

The Offenbach City Library wants to follow the good example of Frankfurt in the near future and is planning its own "Library of Things". The idea of sharing instead of buying in terms of sustainability is an exciting concept that will hopefully meet with just as positive a response in Frankfurt as it has in other cities where such or similar concepts already exist. So, if you ever need something again or want to try your hand at an instrument before buying it yourself, just take a look at the "Bibliothek der Dinge"vorbei!
