The summer holidays are coming to an end, but next week it's back to school. But before everyday life calls again, the Liebieghaus once again invites you to the big children's festival this summer. On Sunday, 5 August 2018, the party will be held under the motto "Magical Machines". On this last day of the summer holidays, visitors can take part in numerous workshops and guided tours from 10:00 to 18:00 and go exploring at the Liebieghaus. The focus this year is entirely on the special exhibition "O Sentimental Machine" by the contemporary artist William Kentridge, who has moved into the museum with his ingenious machines and installations. His fascinating works range from films to sculptures to paper tears that will captivate young and old at the Children's Festival.
On offer are, among other things, numerous guided tours through which children and adults alike will gain exciting insights into the work of William Kentridge and his machines, which bring art to life and move the Liebieghaus in a variety of ways. Fittingly, the idyllic Liebieghaus Garden will also be transformed into an experimental field: in six different workshops, children can get creative and practical themselves. Machines will be made of clay, puzzling robots and mysterious machine creatures, or colourful mobiles made of paper. Using charcoal, the children draw and wipe like Kentridge himself or build monsters out of stone with sharp teeth and long claws. Images are also set in motion, allowing the children to create fantastic films.
Besides this, other exciting programme events will take place: In the garden there will be drumming music to join in with for small and big children under the guidance of Mark Collazo and the theatre pedagogue Tina Gliesche invites you to join in shadow theatre. Rudi Gerharz will take the very young ones on various thematic fairy-tale journeys through the Liebieghaus with his stories. Musical entertainment will be provided, among others, by the student band of the Schiller School. And parents will not be neglected either: they can gain insights into the special exhibition by William Kentridge during thematic guided tours. Sweet and savoury treats, such as waffles in the garden and various specialities in the Liebieghaus Café round off the festival. This is a relaxing way to end the summer holidays with the whole family.
Admission to the children's festival is 12 euros, concessions 10 euros, the family ticket costs 18 euros. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free of charge. Members of the "KinderKunstKlub" with one accompanying person each also receive free admission. Registration in advance is not required, tickets are available on site.
