The summer is not quite over yet and in Frankfurt there will still be some great festivals in the coming weeks. Nevertheless, the coming weekend with the Museumsuferfest will undoubtedly be the big highlight of the summer festival season in the Main metropolis. From 24 to 26 August, one of the biggest festivals not only in Frankfurt but in the whole of Germany will be celebrated - with a programme that this year is once again as diverse as the Museumsufer itself. Around 500 individual events on 16 stages on the Main, as well as in 23 participating museums and institutions, are waiting to be discovered by visitors.
The guest country
In the past two years, there was no guest country. In 2016 the Batschkapp's anniversary was celebrated and in 2017 Frankfurt's children were the focus. In 2018, there will now be a guest country again, which will be allowed to present itself on the banks of the Main with various activities and stands. Visitors to the Museumsuferfest can look forward to getting to know the different facets of Georgia. In addition to the area on the banks of the Main, where there will be hands-on activities, music and dance, as well as handicrafts and culinary delights from Georgia, the guest country will also be represented in the Historical Museum. One of the highlights here will be a performance by "The Voice of Germany" winner Natia Todua, who will take visitors on a musical journey to her homeland together with Nino Kambegashvilli (piano) on Sunday (26.08.) at 2 pm in the Sonnemannsaal.
The Museums
For the Historisches Museum this Museumsuferfest is a very special one, as for the first time the entire ensemble with the new building and the Young Museum can present itself here. To get to know the museum, the various guided tours are of course particularly well suited, with those with Bäppi La Belle being a special highlight. But also the other participating museums entice with many great offers such as special tours, music and various participatory activities. The Museum of Communication, for example, offers a raffle, a special postmark of the special post office or a drum performance as well as short tours through the beautiful permanent exhibition and the great special exhibition "The Night. Everything but Sleep." In the Caricatura there is the opportunity to look at the paintings of Otto Waalkes shortly before the end of the exhibition period and the Archaeological Museum transforms the lawn in front of the museum into a fascinating work place, where among other things bronze casting or the production of stone tools are shown. The Film Museum offers film screenings and the Bluebox action on the 4th floor as well as the popular film flea market in the foyer again. The Museum Giersch attracts with the popular antiquarian book mile and the Schirn invites to open air cinema in the Bahnhofsviertel (Wiesenhüttenplatz) on the three festival evenings. Festivals in the Festival
This year there will again be some smaller festivals in the context of the big Museumsuferfest. In addition to the popular Choir and Organ Mile and the "Sound in the Monastery", the traditional dragon boat race is of course once again on the programme. Music stages
Musically, there really is something for every taste. World music, pop, Schlager, rock, jazz - the various stages really offer almost everything your heart desires. Young music fans can look forward to a performance by "The Voice Kids" winner Anisa Celik (Sunday, 4:30 p.m.) on the Frankfurt Music Stage. Roy Hammer, the band Feuerherz and Vincent Gross will also do the honours here. Helium 6 (Binding Stage), Fee (Journal Frankfurt Stage), Gastone (Frizz Stage), Hanne Kah (Rainbow Area) and the Copy Cats (Feinstaub and Tiefengrund Stages) will also be providing musical versatility.
Of course, the Tango Stage, Spain on the Main and the artists' market, which this year will be focusing on the theme of "upcycling", should not be missed. In addition, there are numerous culinary offerings from at least forty countries and much more.
The fireworks
After the fireworks at the Mainfest had to be canceled due to the drought, the question naturally arises whether there will be the final fireworks at the Museumsuferfest. Quite clearly: safety first. There will be no "Main in Flames," jokes Thomas Feda of Tourismus+Congress GmbH, which is organizing the festival for the twentieth time.
