The Old Town Festival casts its shadow ahead

The Old Town Festival casts its shadow ahead

First the topping-out ceremony was celebrated. Then the removal of the construction fences. And because we Frankfurters love to celebrate so much, the new Altstadt will be treated to a third, really big party at the end of September to mark the official opening. For three days, the DomRömer Quartier will be the scene of all kinds of festivities. There will be numerous city tours - most of which are already fully booked - music, performances, theatre and a very special light show late on Saturday evening. At the programme presentation, Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann expressed his confidence that this festival will be one of the annual highlights of 2018. After all, he said, the interest in the old town in Frankfurt and the surrounding area was enormous, initial scepticism had given way to high acceptance and enthusiasm almost throughout. "The new Altstadt is a magnet," Feldmann notes, and that will certainly be the case on the festival weekend from September 28 to 30.

There will be no stages or performances on the new site itself, the security concept simply won't allow it. Of course, the residents who will have moved into the shops and restaurants by then will welcome the visitors with special events. But the real celebrations will be on the Römer and on the banks of the Main. There will also be two stages here. The one on the Römer will offer theatre performances by the Dramatische Bühne, a concert by the hr-Bigband with Laith Al-Deen or opera highlights under the starry sky with artists from the Frankfurt Opera. The second stage on the Mainkai will offer mainly rock, pop and soul, including great artists such as the local heroes of the Rodgau Monotones, Andreas Kümmert, Gastone or even Yvonne Mwale.

Also some museums will take part in the festivities with special offers, among them the Archaeological Museum, which will of course also present in detail the Kaiserfurt under the new town hall, the Historical Museum, which will focus on its old town models, the Architecture Museum, which will show an exhibition about the old town, or also the Institute for Urban History, which will present atmospherically wonderful music events in the cloister.

Here, drones equipped with LED lights will conjure up images in the night sky, accompanied by music and narration. Find out more HERE.

Up to 250,000 visitors are expected over the three days. A colourful programme of music, culture and history awaits them, which of course should also offer the opportunity to get to know the new old town and all it has to offer - which might be a bit difficult due to the expected crowds. But there are still the two stages, the info mile, the museums and much more.

RMV's 3:1 promotion for Frankfurt's Old Town Festival

Pay for one day, celebrate for three: that's what RMV is offering for Frankfurt's Old Town Festival.

With this promotion, all day and group day tickets purchased on 28 September are also valid on the following two days.

RMV Managing Director Prof. Knut Ringat: "With the 3:1 Old Town promotion, RMV is creating an attractive offer that allows visitors to leave their cars behind and travel comfortably by bus and train instead. So there's nothing standing in the way of celebrating."

The new Old Town can be reached by tram lines 11 and 12 via the "Römer/Paulskirche" stop and by underground to the "Dom/Römer" station with lines 4 and 5. The Old Town offer is valid for all day and group day tickets valid between 28 and 30 September 2018 and entitles the holder to any number of journeys in the selected area of validity. The promotion is valid for all relations within the RMV area excluding the transition tariff areas, outside Hesse or in the North and South Hesse associations.

RMV day tickets and group day tickets can be purchased at ticket vending machines, points of sale and mobility centres or as RMV-HandyTicket. Anyone who buys such a ticket for 28 September can also use it to travel on the 29th and 30th without having to pay again. If you buy the ticket on 29 September, you can also use it on 30 September without having to pay any more. Then you get a 2:1 offer
