The Rheingau will also be a guest at the Freßgass - Genuss im Rheingauer Weingarten

The Rheingau will also be a guest at the Freßgass - Genuss im Rheingauer Weingarten

Like so many events, the popular Rheingau Wine Market cannot take place this year - at least not as we know and love it. But instead of cancelling this festival for all wine lovers altogether, Tourismus+Congress GmbH and the Rheingau Winegrowers' Association have come up with a charming alternative that you can enjoy until September 15: The Rheingau Wine Garden! This is significantly reduced in terms of space as well as the range of products on offer - but at least it's a small way of bringing some wine market flair to the Freßgass.

Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann is pleased that the event has not been completely cancelled: "I am delighted that the people of Frankfurt will be able to taste the wonderful wines of the Rheingau in the Freßgass again in this difficult year," says Feldmann. Besides a diverse range of wines, the 2019 vintage, which produces special qualities, is particularly in the focus of the offer in the Rheingau vineyard. This is because last year, a warm May was followed by a very early blossoming of the vines and then by an enormously hot and dry summer. For the grapes, this meant optimal ripening conditions. "The 2019 white wines present themselves very aromatic with a pleasantly fresh fruit acidity", explains Peter Seyffardt, president of the Rheingau viticulture.

With pleasure, all participating vintners of the popular wine festival would have come to Frankfurt's Freßgass again this year, as it has been a nice tradition in Frankfurt's late summer for years. However, due to hygiene regulations, only seven wineries were given the opportunity to bring their Rheingau wine to Frankfurt on selected days in a small setting. But even if there are only a few wineries, they still present the whole diversity of the Rheingau. With wines from the upper Rheingau, the winery of the city of Frankfurt, which kicked off the event on Tuesday, 2 September, is particularly impressive. The upper Rheingau is particularly known for its chalky soils and its mineral wines. With noble drops from the middle Rheingau, the M. Bickelmaier, Barth, Schüler-Katz, Baron Knyphausen and Jung-Dahlen wineries are convincing. The wines from the middle Rheingau are full-bodied and known for their fruit and racy acidity. From the lower Rheingau, the Wurm winery brings its products. The wines from Lorch am Rhein have great elegance with lots of play and a striking acidity.

The Rheingau is particularly noted for its Riesling. Also called the queen among white wine varieties, it is a slow-maturing grape variety whose defining element is its fruity acidity. It captivates with its fragrance of peach or apple and is particularly suitable as a food companion or can be enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere on the terrace. The Rheingau winegrowers present a selection of the numerous variations from dry to fruity sweet. They also have some Burgundy varieties in their range. It's worth stopping by. Dispensed every day between 11 am and 9:30 pm.

If you can't make it to the wine stand, you can come visit the excellent vinotheques in the Rheingau with the vinotheque guide. 31 unique vinotheques from Hochheim am Main to Lorch am Rhein have been certified in 2019 and invite you to enjoy wine in an uncomplicated way. Guided tours with the culture and wine embassies to a selection of these excellent vinotheques from Frankfurt, Mainz or Wiesbaden are also offered regularly. The "Rheingau Wine Garden" wine stand will be set up at the fountain in Freßgass. Visitors who are in the wine garden must leave their contact details for possible tracking. Consumption is only possible in the fenced-off area. The usual hygiene and protection measures apply, such as keeping your distance and a maximum of ten people per table. Facilities for hand disinfection are available.
