The sweet gold from the roof of the MMK 1 - The museum bees are flying again

31.03.2017 | 07:48 Clock | Citywhispers

The first rays of sunshine have already heralded the arrival of spring, and along with the spring fever, the bees of the MMK are also awakening from their winter sleep. Soon they will be flying through the streets of Frankfurt again, busily collecting all the ingredients for urban honey. The MMK is delighted that Andreas Wolf and Florian Haas, also known as the artist duo finger, have been tending the bees on the roof of MMK 1 for ten years.

Anyone who would like to visit the twelve beehives and their 600,000 or so inhabitants on the roof of MMK 1 will have the opportunity to do so from 1 April 2017 at one of the many different events the museum is offering for all age groups. Children aged six to ten can observe the insects under supervision after a honey breakfast and learn all about the structure of the hives and their inhabitants. Under professional guidance, they will extract wax from the honeycomb boxes, which they will then turn into wax painters. Adults are also cordially invited to visit the bees' home and, in addition, a nature trail on urban beekeeping designed by finger. During the tours, intersections of animal husbandry, social design, and artistic approaches will be highlighted alongside actual beekeeping practices.

On August 19, the honey breakfast will take place and the honey of the 2017 season may be sampled.
On the occasion of the ten years together that the artist duo finger and the MMK can then look back on, there will be other special program items on that day. More on this shortly at http://mmk-frankfurt.en/en/experience/bee-project/
