'Tobi's city trip' takes you to Frankfurt's new Old Town

Since its opening, Frankfurt's new Old Town has become a real crowd puller. Life pulsates here - at least that was the case until a few weeks ago, when hr3 morning show host Tobi Kämmerer was on location with hr television to portray the new Old Town for the series "Tobi's City Trip". The 45-minute film made here can be seen on Tuesday, April 21 at 8:15pm (although it should be noted that the start of the show may be delayed slightly due to the current situation). If you don't want to wait: In the ARD-Mediathek "Tobis Städtetrip: Frankfurts neue Altstadt hautnah!" is already available anytime.

During the shoot at the beginning of March, Tobi Kämmerer discovered lots of interesting things: in addition to the wonderfully reconstructed half-timbered houses, for example, caramel sweets made from Frankfurt Green Sauce or a robot with which you can explore criminal Frankfurt yourself. In the feature, which is well worth seeing, the likeable presenter also meets project manager Matthias Leissner, who was responsible for the entire construction of the old town. Together they discover the area, and Tobi and the viewers get a lot of insider information. They also head up to the now legendary Belvederchen - a reconstructed roof garden high above Frankfurt's new Altstadt.

In the alleyways, Tobi discovers Özlem Ortells' iconic Lädchen. Here you can find lots of local and handmade things like the soft caramel sweets, which are made with the seven herbs of the Green Sauce. But the beer socks and cups made from recycled coffee grounds are also eye-catchers. Speaking of eye-catchers: in the new building of the Historical Museum, Susanne Gesser shows the presenter how guests can discover criminal Frankfurt with a robot - a device that is unique in the world. Also, hidden deep in the museum is the old port of Frankfurt.

The ideas of which places Tobi Kämmerer should definitely visit during his city trip came from the residents and Frankfurt fans themselves. They gave the presenter their tips on Facebook before the shoot. Filming was done with a particularly compact camera technology, the device is hardly bigger than a mobile phone. This allows scenes to be shot that would not be possible with larger cameras, and Tobi's interview guests quickly forget that they are on television. The result is a 45-minute, very special voyage of discovery with the best tips for your own city trip to Frankfurt. Tobi's conclusion: Frankfurt's new old town is a real Hessian pearl and definitely worth a city trip - even if only in the Corona-free period.
