Tunnel closure: Severe restrictions in Frankfurt S-Bahn traffic this weekend

Tunnel closure: Severe restrictions in Frankfurt S-Bahn traffic this weekend

Those who need to travel to or from Frankfurt by S-Bahn between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon will have to be prepared for some detours. Because the Frankfurt City Tunnel between the main station and Offenbach-Kaiserlei can from Saturday, November 7, 7 p.m., to Sunday, November 8, 2:30 p.m.not be used by S-Bahn trains. The reason for this is an urgently needed software change in the electronic interlocking (ESTW). This forced break is then also used for the fact that rebuilding work on the control and safety technology in the tunnel can be carried out.

The S-Bahns bypass the City Tunnel during the time of the closure or are cancelled between Frankfurt Central Station and Frankfurt South or Offenbach. A rail replacement service with buses will be available for passengers. In addition, the subway lines U1, U2 and U4 will run with additional cars. The Frankfurt transport company traffiQ also accepts DB tickets during the closure.

Also in regional and long-distance traffic, passengers must be prepared to isolated detours and delays due to the work. In particular, the regional trains 40/41 (Mittelhessenexpress) can only go to Frankfurt West instead of the main station during the entire closure period. A rail replacement service with buses will also be set up for the route between Frankfurt West and Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.

DB service staff will be on hand at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and at Hauptwache and Konstablerwache stations to show customers the way to the replacement service and answer questions. All timetable changes are stored in the electronic information and booking media. Deutsche Bahn recommends that all travellers inform themselves before starting their journey, e.g. via www.bahn.de or www.rmv.de to find out about the latest connections.

Operating program of the S-Bahn in detail:

The line S1 bypasses the tunnel via Frankfurt South, ie.i.e. it is diverted from Griesheim via Frankfurt Süd and Offenbach Hauptbahnhof to Offenbach Ost.

The S2 line does not run between Griesheim and OffenbachKaiserlei.

The lines S3 and S4 are cancelled between Galluswarte and Frankfurt Süd.

The lines S5 and S6 are cancelled between Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and Frankfurt Süd or between Frankfurt West and Frankfurt Süd (1:30 am to 6:30 am). For line S6, the stops Messe and Galluswarte will be cancelled during this time.

Line S7 will be cancelled between Frankfurt Stadion and Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.

The line S8 does not run between Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and Offenbach Ost.

The line S9 bypasses the tunnel via Frankfurt South, i.e. it is diverted via Stadion and Frankfurt South to Offenbach East.

Routes of the rail replacement service with buses:

In the period from Saturday 7 pm to Sunday 2:30 pm, a rail replacement service with buses will be offered between the following stops:

Offenbach Kaiserlei - Mühlberg - Frankfurt Süd - Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof

Frankfurt Süd - Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof - Griesheim

Frankfurt West and Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.
