Verdi plans 24-hour strike at Frankfurt Airport

The trade union Verdi has announced that it will paralyse Frankfurt Airport with an all-day strike. Following the two-day warning strike in Munich, employees from the public sector and ground handling services are to strike in Frankfurt on Monday. This is according to the latest information from the union.

The strike will begin at 00:00 on Monday night and last until 23:59. Employees in the public sector and ground transport services are to strike. A rally is planned for the morning.

In the current round of collective bargaining, warning strikes at Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Munich airports have already partially paralysed flight operations and led to numerous cancellations. The last time there was a warning strike by public employees in Frankfurt was in March 2023, at that time in coordination with the railway and transport union

Verdi demands significant pay rises
The union is demanding a pay rise of eight per cent or at least 350 euros more per month. It is also demanding higher bonuses for shift work, an increase in training allowances of 200 euros per month and three additional days off.

The employers reject the demands as unaffordable. The next collective bargaining negotiations will take place in Potsdam from 14 to 16 March 2025.

Travellers can expect massive disruptions on Monday.
