With the Rheingau is one of 13 German growing areas for quality wine in close proximity to Frankfurt. To honor the diversity from this region in Frankfurt, the Rheingau Wine Market is held annually. From Wednesday, August 30, to Friday, September 8, 31 vintners present themselves with their own stands and wines on the Freßgass.
"The Rheingau Wine Market is a festival with tradition. Since 1978, the people of Frankfurt have been celebrating the natural product wine here, whose cultivation and production are considered a location factor worldwide in culinary, cultural and tourist terms. With the Rheingau right outside the city gates and Frankfurt's Lohrberg as its easternmost spur, this wonderful craft is also at home here. Therefore, we celebrate the wine from our region in the coming days and wish vintners and visitors a successful course with many wonderful hours," explains Stephanie Wüst, Head of the Department of Economic Affairs, who will open the festival.
Thomas Feda, Managing Director of the organizing Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main (TCF), is also looking forward to the opening with anticipation: "The Rheingau Wine Market is a special festival for us: In a quiet atmosphere - without any stage program at all - wine and its producers take center stage during the ten days of festivities, showing that Frankfurt is not only the capital of cider, but also a city for wine lovers."
"Visitors can look forward to fresh, aromatic and expressive wines from the 2022 vintage," says Rheingau Wine Queen Katja Föhr. "In addition to the diverse range of our Riesling wines, the queen of white wine grape varieties, the winegrowers also have a wide range of Spätburgunder red wines, Blanc de Noirs and Rosé at their wine stands. You can also find Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc from the Rheingau at many vintners to enjoy on site or at home."
In total, visitors to the 43rd Rheingau Wine Market will have a selection of over 600 wines and sparkling wines from the Rheingau to taste. This offer is complemented by culinary delights, especially from the direct gastronomic Freßgass residents.
"The wines of the current vintage present themselves with a moderate alcohol content and have a harmonious and well tolerated acidity. The young Riesling wines are characterized by typical aromas such as apple and peach - perfect for a balmy summer evening in the heart of Frankfurt am Main. Those who like it a bit more individual will find mineral notes in the site wines characterized by the terroir, which tell of their origin," explains Peter Seyffardt, president of the Rheingau Winegrowers' Association.
Frankfurt Wine Queen Lena Roie is also looking forward to the Rheingau Wine Market: "As a representative of the wine city of Frankfurt am Main, I am very pleased, together with my sponsor winery, to welcome all the winegrowers in the Main metropolis."
The wine festival will be opened on August 30 at 6 p.m. by Economic Affairs Minister Wüst, Winegrowers' President Seyffardt, the Rheingau Wine Majesties and TCF Managing Director Feda at the fountain in Freßgass. Until September 8, it will then open daily from 11 am to 11 pm.
