Wine garden instead of wine market again: The Rheingau is also a guest at the Freßgass' in 2021

28.08.2021 | 11:43 Clock | Culinary

For lovers of delicious wines from the Rheingau, late summer in Frankfurt is always a very special celebration. Because that's when the Rheingau Wine Market usually takes place on the Freßgass, where wineries from the region offer their tastiest drops. Especially at the end of the day, the Rheingau wine market is an extremely popular meeting place. Last year, the market was cancelled, but wineries were able to present themselves in the smaller wine garden. This alternative was well accepted by the guests, which is why it will be resorted to again this late summer with steadily increasing incidences.

And so wine lovers can again enjoy Rheingau wines quite traditionally in the Freßgass' from Wednesday, September 1, to Friday, September 10. With the second edition of the Rheingauer Weingarten, the Tourismus+Congress GmbH and the Rheingauer Weinwerbung have created this year for the first time in cooperation with the Frankfurter Schaustellerverband again an alternative, which brings with appropriate hygiene and protection measures, a little bit of wine market flair in the Freßgass'.

"Since the beginning of July, the Frankfurt Plan campaign 'Summer in the City' has been enriching Frankfurt's city centre with rides and snacks. The associated wine stand in the Freßgass' is now being transformed into the Rheingau wine garden in a very lasting way and will present us with the best drops from our wine-growing region on our doorstep over the next ten days," explains Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann. "On the first day, the wine estate of the city of Frankfurt am Main will present its wines in the Rheingau wine garden, which I am very happy about", Feldmann adds.

The proven concept from last year will be taken up again in 2021: Thus, each day, one of ten wine estates will offer a selection of its wines at the stand. Besides a wide range of wines, which represents the whole diversity of the Rheingau, the 2020 vintage, which produces incredible qualities, will be in the focus of the visitors. One of the warmest early years since the beginning of weather records was followed by a very early flowering of the vines for the third year in a row, followed by an enormously hot and dry summer, which even surpassed the year 2018. For the grapes, this meant optimal ripening conditions. "Accordingly, the white wines present themselves aromatic and distinctly fruity", says Peter Seyffardt, president of the Rheingau viticulture. "The red wines have particularly benefited from the sunny summer and present an excellent color and taste experience," explains the vintner. "A great opportunity to get to know the wines of the Rheingau and find your favorite wine. There is something for every visitor," adds Rheingau Wine Queen Valerie Gorgus.

"I am very pleased that we can offer the people of Frankfurt this great cooperation with the Frankfurt Showmen's Association and thus here in the Freßgass' in the next few days, quite traditionally, people can talk shop again about the excellent wines from the Rheingau", says Thomas Feda, managing director of the municipal Tourismus+Congress GmbH.
