Winter lights in the Palmengarten shine again

Winter lights in the Palmengarten shine again

The time has finally come: since Saturday, 4. December 2021, until Sunday, January 9, 2022, the Winter Lights will once again shine in the Palmengarten, transforming Frankfurt's green living room into a radiant, sparkling, glittering winter wonderland every evening. For many, this wonderful light event has become an integral part of the (pre-)Christmas season and was sorely missed during the past lockdown winter. In the anniversary year of the Palmengarten, the winter lights are now allowed to shine again, even if there are some special features to consider for a visit.

But then interactive prisms, tree rings, clouds, light fruit, a wishing tree and a cloud wheel are waiting to fascinate people and make them feel good. It is again very beautiful what Winter Lights initiator Wolfgang Flammersfeld has conjured up in the garden. For example, on the playground in front of Haus Leonhardsbrunn, the installation "Blue Moon" shines together with the imd_plant transistor, the pavilion with which students of the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach have been inviting visitors to interact with various plants since the summer.

With over 20 objects and various video installations, Flammersfeld is once again bringing light into the darkness of long winter evenings. In addition to the novelties, he has also brought along crowd favorites such as the glowing snowdrops and the hydro shield above the Octagon Fountain. For the Winter Lights, Flammersfeld and his team of eight are laying around twelve kilometres of cable in the open countryside of the Palmengarten, and installing around 700 spotlights, most of them LED.

"This year's Winter Lights also take up our central theme of 'Flower and Pollinator Ecology', which was proclaimed with the anniversary year: At Villa Leonhardi, visitors will encounter a glowing, buzzing swarm of bees," says Palmengarten Director Katja Heubach. "That makes us very happy, of course. And we are just as happy that there will be the Winter Lights in the Palmengarten again this year, of course with a sophisticated hygiene concept."

As every year, guests can warm up with hot drinks and small dishes after the walk in the Café Winter Lights in the gallery at the Palmenhaus and in the Villa Leonhardi. Just a few steps away, in the Galerie West, the Palmengarten invites visitors on a journey through one and a half centuries of garden history with the anniversary exhibition "Frankfurt's Green Heart - 150 Years of the Palmengarten". It is told on the basis of six main themes: Garden Art, Botanical and Horticultural Collections through the Ages, Splendor and Hospitality, Music in the Palmengarten, Sports and Games, and Education and Engagement.

The Winter Lights in the Palmengarten will shine from December 4, 2021 to January 9, 2022 (except December 24 and 31) from 5 to 9 p.m. each day, with last admission at 8 p.m. The Palm House will also be open until 9 p.m. during this time.

PLEASE NOTE: Tickets are only available in advance at frankfurtticket.de. The ticket contingents are released on a weekly basis, each Monday for the following week.

They cost 10 euros for adults, reduced 5 euros, 20 euros for families. With the Palmengarten annual pass you have free access. The event takes place outdoors in all weathers, ticket return or cancellation is not possible. The 2G rule applies throughout the Palmengarten. It is recommended to travel by public transport.
