Young German Philharmonic Orchestra receives Binding Culture Prize 2020

Although the corona virus is currently dominating the news, there are fortunately other, positive reports. One of these is directed at the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. In 2020, this orchestra will be awarded the Binding Culture Prize, one of the most prestigious art prizes in Germany. This is already the 25th time that the award, which is endowed with 50,000 euros, has been presented by the Binding Cultural Foundation.

With the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Board of Trustees has chosen a Frankfurt institution that, as a singular orchestra of young musicians, has been attracting attention far beyond the borders of Frankfurt for decades because of its high quality. The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is made up of students from all over the world who are studying at German-speaking music academies. Membership, which is tied to an entrance examination, is a kind of best-practice training for subsequent professional practice in the most renowned international orchestras.

The members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie administer their orchestra themselves, democratically deciding on programs, soloists and conductors, and thus establishing a new, progressive orchestral culture. With the interdisciplinary project FREISPIEL, the orchestra sets new accents in the music business from Frankfurt. The programmes developed are presented on international concert tours and guest appearances. In this way, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie also acts as a beacon for Frankfurt's innovative and modern cultural life.

The Binding Culture Prize is important for promoting the cultural scene in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. With the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, another top-class cultural institution joins the ranks of the always outstanding award winners. With this year's award, the tradition-rich Binding brewery is underlining its close ties to its home region in the year of its 150th anniversary.

Since 1996, the Binding Cultural Foundation has awarded the prize annually to an event or initiative from all areas of cultural life in the region. It is endowed with 50,000 euros, making it one of the most highly endowed cultural prizes in Germany.
