ZOOM Club leaves downtown

ZOOM Club leaves downtown

At the German ComicCon in Dortmund a few years ago we got to talk to actor Sylvester McCoy. The actor, known for "Doctor Who" and "The Hobbit", told us about his special relationship to Frankfurt, where he had worked at the Sinkkasten for some time in the late 70s. There are many stories like this to tell, as the Sinkkasten was an important cultural venue for Frankfurt, known far beyond the city's borders. For many years it was at home in the premises in Brönnerstrasse, which were once home to the "Storyville", one of Germany's most famous jazz venues, and in the early 1970s to the "Zoom" music club. After the demise of the Sinkkasten, the "ZOOM" namesake took over in 2021 and once again brought many great concerts, parties, readings and other events to this downtown cultural venue. So it is an eventful and culturally diverse history that this house has written. But now, unfortunately, this is coming to an end.

Because the music club, which continues to be closed due to the Corona pandemic, will have to leave the premises at the end of the year. Since the building is to be sold, the lease will not be renewed any further. But even though this place will now lose its long-time club and music history, this does not mean the end of ZOOM. For the club is moving and will reopen in Fechenheim in early 2022 (pandemic permitting). Here, too, a location has been found that is part of Frankfurt's club tradition: the new ZOOM will open in the premises of the former Cocoon Club (then Moon 13). For many years, the techno club founded by Sven Väth was one of the top addresses in Frankfurt's nightlife. Now this club is being revived with a new concept: ZOOM has created a new live venue with two stages here.

This is of course good news. It's just a pity that the farewell to the traditional venue in Brönnerstraße ends in the middle of the Corona crisis and therefore cannot be celebrated properly. At least: there will be a little ZOOM feeling in the coming weeks at various events on the summer lawn at the Jahrhunderthalle. More info HERE
